Brookleigh Estate
wedding photographer
Brookleigh Estate sits on the quiet side of the Swan Valley at Upper Swan — French-inspired limestone buildings, a lake, and enough room between them that a wedding day never feels crowded. They host one wedding a day, so the whole estate is yours.
That matters more than it sounds. The Chateau, the Lakeside Gazebo, the Jacaranda Garden, the Stables and the Equestrian Lawn all sit within a short walk of each other, so the day can move from ceremony to portraits to reception without anyone getting into a car. Nobody loses forty minutes to travel, and the photographs still don’t repeat themselves.
Shona & Saif married here in early September, and theirs was really two celebrations in one day — a white gown and black tie, then a change into gold for a traditional ceremony on a decorated dais, with the reception running on under a clear marquee long after dark. A day built like that is two weddings back to back in completely different registers, and the job is to shoot both properly without letting either one feel like the warm-up.
The estate gives you a great deal to work with. The Chateau’s arched limestone doorway is the frame every couple should ask for — it’s deep enough to throw a soft, even light onto anyone standing in it, with the steps below for a dress to spill down. A short walk away there’s a blossom tree that only flowers for a few weeks in spring, and it was out. Most of the portraits on this page were made within a couple of minutes’ walk of each other.
Then the sun goes and the property turns into something else entirely. The vine arbour is strung with warm bulbs, and walking a couple down it after sunset gives you a long tunnel of light with the grounds sitting dark behind. It is the easiest good photograph at Brookleigh, and it’s the one couples never think to ask for.
One practical thing worth knowing early: Brookleigh is the only BYO wedding venue in the Swan Valley. That changes your budget and it changes your timeline, so it’s a conversation to have at the start of planning rather than the end.
