Tayla and Brodie on their wedding day at The Olive Estate, Henley Brook

Henley Brook · Western Australia

The Olive Estate
wedding photographer

The Olive Estate in Henley Brook is an amazing rural-style property filled with lots of great spots for photos. The venue offers ceremony, reception and accommodation all in one.

That last part matters more than couples expect. Because everything happens on one property, nobody loses forty minutes to travel — which means more time for photos, and a day that doesn't feel rushed.

We shot Tayla & Brodie here under the trees, with the light coming through in patches. Dappled light is difficult and it's also where the best frames come from if you know how to meter for it.

The other thing worth knowing is that The Olive Estate has accommodation on the property — three bedrooms sleeping up to eight. That changes the morning more than couples expect. Getting ready where you are getting married means no car, no motorway, and no bridal party arriving flustered. It also means we can photograph the preparation in daylight in a room we have already scouted.

Ceremony, reception and beds are all on one title. The olive grove and the garden spaces handle the ceremony, the indoor reception room takes long-table seating with lounge areas off it, and there is a smaller formal dining room for around sixteen if you want an intimate dinner instead.

Olive foliage is silver on the underside, and it bounces light upward. That is why portraits under the olives are so forgiving — you get soft fill under the eyes without a reflector, at a time of day when open sun would be unusable. Late afternoon, walking slowly, is all it takes.

Getting married here?

We already know
the light

We've photographed at The Olive Estate and we shoot across the Perth Hills, Swan Valley and the coast every season. That means we're not working out your venue on the day — we're working out your family.

Eight photographers on the team means your date is rarely a problem, and there's always someone ready if plans change.

He captured our moments perfectly and all we had to do was enjoy our day! Would highly recommend Jesse.

Good to know

The Olive Estate
questions we get asked

Can we get ready at The Olive Estate?
Yes — there is accommodation on site sleeping up to eight across three bedrooms. It is one of the strongest reasons to book the place. Preparation photographs are usually the most rushed part of a wedding day, and staying on the property removes the travel that causes the rush.
How many guests does The Olive Estate hold?
The estate lists ceremonies up to around 120 and seated receptions up to around 100, plus a private dining room for about sixteen. Confirm the current numbers with the venue when you enquire — capacities move as venues change their layouts.
Is there an indoor option if it rains?
There is an indoor reception room built for long-table seating, so a wet day moves the dinner rather than cancelling it. The olive grove still photographs well under cloud; overcast light is soft and even, and it suits the silver-green of the trees.
When is the best light in the olive grove?
Late afternoon. The grove is dappled rather than open, so it holds usable light long after an exposed lawn has gone harsh, and it keeps working right up until the sun drops behind the trees.
